Supreme Knight Carl Anderson is constantly asking all Knights to be pro-active on the most important issue of our time-LIFE.  The 34,000 Louisiana Knights and their families will have an incredible opportunity to make a significant difference in this year's Louisiana legislative process. Soon the human cloning and related Embryonic Stem Cell Research (ESCR) issue will be brought to the floor of the Louisiana legislature for the third year in a row.  The facts are clear; cloning of a human for any purpose is wrong.  Whether the terms used are therapeutic cloning or reproductive cloning it has always involved the willful destruction of newly created human life for the so-called advancement of medical research.  It must be totally banned. Scientific experience has repeatedly proven in labs throughout the world that embryonic stem cells have never produced a positive medical benefit of any kind.  Moreover, embryonic stem cells which are only obtained through the killing of innocent human life is NEVER NECESSARY because there have been repeated successes using stem cells from other sources such as umbilical cord and placental tissues and from adults as well. There is an unlimited supply of stem cells from sources that do not require the killing of innocent human life. The list of breakthroughs using adult stem cells is amazing and growing constantly. No one has suggested stopping the advancement of medical breakthroughs to combat disease.  What we are demanding is that research be done ethically, simply put, without cloning and killing for the purpose of harvesting embryonic stem cells.
